Simtech Aviation to the Rescue!

It is hard being a general aviation (GA) pilot based in the metro New York City area. Small airports are few in number relative to the density of the area and for some they may be as far away as a 90 minute drive. Plane rental rates are high and so are the wait times on the taxiway and in the traffic pattern. That is your time and money accumulating alongside that Hobbs meter. These are the not-so-fun parts about flying in this area.

Thankfully, there is a cure - Simtech Aviation! They have an Advanced Aviation Training Device (AATD) complete with the Garmin G1000 NXi avionics suite. They have a great team of ATP (Airline Transport Pilot) rated flight instructors. And because you’re receiving top notch training in an AATD that the FAA allows for credit toward airman certifications and ratings, you’re not spending time in the car, in traffic. Or in the airplane at the hold short line…waiting. Or on that extended downwind or arrival hold. You’re not spending precious learning time doing something non-constructive. Once you are here, you sit down, boot up, and immediately get on with your lesson.

Julian Alarcon is the founder of Simtech Aviation. He’s been a bit of a mentor for me and I’ve absorbed plenty of knowledge and encouragement from him in the past few years. He is dedicated to the instruction, education, and inspiration of future pilots and that is his cause behind Simtech. It’s hard to learn to fly or keep legally current and proficient if you live here. It’s easy to get discouraged. Simtech Aviation provides relief!

Due to the pandemic, their simulator is temporarily in Hoboken which is still convenient for most folks and an easier trip than going to a local GA airport. Julian plans to move the simulator back to its original home in the heart of Manhattan - Herald Square - once COVID is behind us (or before then, if able). Rest assured that for the time being, he and the other instructors at Simtech take the necessary precautions that are required in these times. You can definitely train efficiently and stay safe at the same time!

Please check out Simtech Aviation at www.aviator.nyc, especially if you are in the New York area. They are truly a savior for us NYC pilots (or soon-to-be pilots).
